Foam production, nesting, and shop-floor management.

A connected operational solution for managing foam inventory, coordinating 2D and 3D nesting inputs and outputs, preparing physical material, and tracking work through production.

Operational problem

Foam cutting depended on accurate knowledge of full foam buns, reusable remnants, piece requirements, nesting recommendations, CNC cutting work, and material movement across the shop floor.

Without a connected operational layer, teams faced manual coordination, limited visibility into reusable material, and the risk that cutting jobs and bill-of-material requirements would not align.

Solution

Foam Shop App maintained current inventory for complete buns and physically identified, reusable remnants. It read cutting requirements, matched suitable remnants to material requests, and connected the inventory and production workflow around the nesting systems.

Act/Cut performed 2D nesting. Foam Shop processed its outputs and CNC job information, then provided ActCube with block requirements plus available remnants and full buns. ActCube performed 3D nesting, prioritizing remnants before full buns. Foam Shop then read ActCube's recommended-material CSV, reserved inventory, and generated warehouse preparation reports.

Reusable remnants created during production return to Foam Shop inventory for identification, location, and future allocation.

Cut requirements and Act/Cut 2D nesting outputs feed the Foam Shop App inventory. Foam Shop provides available remnants and full buns to ActCube, which performs 3D nesting. Foam Shop then processes ActCube recommendations, reserves material, supports picking, and coordinates cutting and shop-floor tracking. Reusable remnants return to inventory.

Production coverage

  • Compared required pieces and BOM demand with cutting jobs to identify missing or additional pieces.
  • Supported QR scanning, production states, physical location, WIP tracking, labels, and operational reporting.
  • Coordinated downstream work, including material preparation and gluing activities.
  • Integrated with Act/Cut, ActCube, SQL data, and CNC job files, including Fecken Kirfel .job files where relevant.

Estimated operational impact

Approximately CAD 300,000 annually in Winnipeg

An operational estimate based on process-efficiency improvements and reduced manual-work requirements. It was not an audited saving, was not formally certified by the employer, and should not be attributed exclusively to nesting.

Personal responsibility

Designed around the real material and production flow.

Scope of contribution

  • Designed and delivered the Foam Shop App and its SQL-backed operational model.
  • Integrated inventory, cutting requirements, Act/Cut outputs, ActCube recommendations, and CNC job information.
  • Built production controls for material reservation, picking, QR scanning, WIP status, labels, reporting, and downstream coordination.
  • Supported implementation across manufacturing plants in Canada and Mexico.

Technology: .NET / Windows Forms and SQL Server, integrated with Almacam/Alma Act/Cut and ActCube and CNC cutting workflows.

Configurable products · Latin America

Configurable product and digital order-entry platform.

A reusable product-model and ordering architecture for configurable window coverings, connecting distributor order entry, business rules, approvals, Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, and production requirements.

Operational problem

Distributors submitted customized orders in Excel files by email. Trained internal staff then interpreted the selections, validated complex dimensional and option rules, and re-entered the orders into the business system.

The process depended heavily on internal product knowledge and manual capture, while every configurable product family carried relationships among measurements, components, compatible options, exclusions, material consumption, and exceptional approvals.

Solution

A reusable business and product-model structure was designed for configurable blinds, shades, and awnings. New models could be created through shared rules and structures instead of programming each product individually.

A web ordering platform exposed models, options, and validation rules to distributors and internal sellers. Valid orders entered Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations automatically, while special dimensions or discounts could be routed for approval. Selected measurements and options dynamically determined recipes, BOMs, and material consumption.

BOM, consumption & production

Dynamic recipes and material requirements support execution

Reusable product models and rules drive distributor order configuration and validation. Exceptional measurements or discounts can require approval. Valid orders enter Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, where dynamic bills of material and material consumption support production.

Centralized business rules

  • Allowed measurement ranges and relationships among dimensions and components.
  • Compatibility and exclusion rules among product options.
  • Special-order conditions and approval requirements.
  • Reusable product models that supported new configurations without product-by-product programming.

Estimated operational capacity

Approximately 1,900 hours annually

An estimate of the time previously dedicated to internal order entry. It was not an audited measurement and should not be interpreted as an automatic or equivalent financial saving.

Personal responsibility

Led the architecture from configurable product rules through ERP execution.

Scope of contribution

  • Led the solution architecture and reusable product-model design.
  • Adapted Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations and developed part of the ASP.NET ordering portal and ERP integration.
  • Participated in testing, implementation, training, go-live, and production support.
  • Translated configurable-product and approval requirements into maintainable business rules and system flows.

Technology: Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, ASP.NET, ERP integrations, and configurable product and BOM logic.
